How to resign and avoid a non compete?

I am planning to resign from my current construction employer on Monday. My new construction employer is not competition but I do have a non compete clause in my contract. Should I bring this up in my resignation meeting or should I wait for my construction employer to address it? Non compete clauses are very sickly. I am sure that your construction employer will have this in the back of his/her mind the minute you say resign. The only thing that you can do is to assure them that you are not and do not intend to violate the contract. If they ask you to provide this in writing or anything else that may make you feel uncomfortable, call a labor attorney.
